Deputy Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Giorgi Sharabidze, participated in the review process of Georgia’s National Report on the State of Human Rights Protection (2021–2025), prepared within the framework of the fourth cycle of the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

In his statement, Giorgi Sharabidze referred to the 2024 Parliamentary Elections and the 2025 Municipal Elections, noting that the Central Election Commission extensively deployed electronic technologies in the most recent nationwide elections. He emphasized that both electoral processes were administered in a highly professional, uninterrupted manner, in full compliance with national legislation and international standards. He further stated that the reliable performance of the technologies, as well as their conformity with international good practices and standards, was also confirmed through a conformity assessment conducted by the U.S.-based auditing firm Pro V&V.

“The Central Election Commission had provided representatives of States with information related to the two most recent nationwide elections conducted in Georgia, including the technologies applied. He noted that the country received almost no recommendations concerning the electoral process, which he described as a positive development. He further emphasized that the election administration will continue to conduct elections in accordance with international standards,” stated Giorgi Sharabidze after the review.

The review was held in Geneva on 26 January and was attended by a delegation of Georgia led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Khatuna Totladze. The delegation comprised representatives of government institutions, as well as the Parliament of Georgia, the Central Election Commission of Georgia, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the High Council of Justice of Georgia, and the Common Courts system of Georgia.
