CEC Chair addresses young voters casting their ballot for first time
“On October 4, municipal elections will take place. Georgian citizens will elect mayors and members of municipal councils for a four-year term. Among these voters will be you, and more than 46,000 young people who will be participating in elections for the very first time this year,” stated CEC Chairman Giorgi Kalandarishvili in his address.
“Your first step into active civic and political life is to exercise your right to vote. These elections present your initial opportunity to engage in a process that is vital for the development of a democratic society.
As you prepare to cast your first vote, remember that this is your chance to influence the governance of your country, city, or community, and to help shape its future. Support the issues that matter most to you, contribute to the building of a democratic society, and foster a culture of electoral participation.
Do not think that a single vote makes no difference. Every journey begins with one step, and especially with one vote. You will decide who will be your mayor, who will serve in your city council, and this choice will influence the place you call home and where your heart belongs.
For the Central Election Commission, and for me personally as the head of this institution, the participation of young people in the electoral process is of utmost importance. It is our shared responsibility. That is why I urge you: exercise your right, come to the polls, and choose your municipality’s representative,” the CEC Chairman’s address concludes.
