“I’m reporting from home. This is an unprecedented time for both Georgia and the world. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, world is turning upside down. There are no easy answers. We, the representatives of the EU countries, probably know this better than others, just look at the pictures coming from Italy and Spain these days. In this context, I would like to congratulate the Georgian government and Georgian politicians for doing all evidence, suggest the right approach, act early and active robustly. Moreover, I would like to applaud the population of Georgia for supporting these measures and acting responsibly in order to stop the spread of the virus.
I would like to take this opportunity and express my heartfelt admiration for the medical professionals, doctors, the nurses, the law enforcement, border guards and all those who are working tirelessly for the safety and security of everyone here. This crisis is not only a health crisis, but it is also a major challenge for the economy. Therefore, I am proud to be working alongside other international partners under the leadership of the Government of Georgia – to properly assess the needs and set out a way ahead.
The European Union stands with Georgia. The EU is Georgia’s largest donor and strongest partner and we will remain that. We are looking at special measures for economy, business and to help the most vulnerable groups of society. It will definitely be a very long process, but we will be together. This is the time when we need to take care of each other. As for me, despite these difficult times, I cannot think of a better place to be right now than here in Georgia. Take care and stay committed” – It is mentioned in the video address of Carl Hartzell, published by the EU Delegation to Georgia.
