German gov't confirms Ambassador’s meeting with For Georgia representative, denies reports on property rental
The German government has responded to questions raised by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party regarding German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer, specifically about the rental of expensive property from Mamuka Khazaradze, meetings held with opposition representatives, and the purpose of those meetings.
According to the official response published by the Bundestag, claims about the ambassador renting expensive property from Mamuka Khazaradze are false.
As for meetings with opposition representatives, the German government confirmed that Ambassador Peter Fischer met with a representative of the opposition party ‘For Georgia’. The meeting, according to the statement, took place after the local elections held on October 4, 2025, and was conducted in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
“The Federal Government does not, as a matter of principle, comment on the content of confidential discussions,” the Bundestag’s response reads.
During the same period, the German ambassador also met once with the Head of the Georgian State Chancellery and once with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the document states.
The response, titled “Federal Government Response to the Minor Interpellation by Members of Parliament Udo Theodor Hemmelgarn, Gerold Otten, Heinrich Koch, other Members of Parliament, and the AfD Parliamentary Group,” outlines the following:
Question 1: Did Ambassador Peter Fischer rent expensive property from opposition leader Mamuka Khazaradze?
– Answer: No, this is not true.
Question 2: Which opposition groups or politicians did the ambassador meet with in the past ten weeks?
– Answer: The ambassador met with a representative of the ‘For Georgia’ party.
