Border Police detain six over immigration violations

As a result of coordinated efforts by the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Border Police, six citizens from Nigeria, Bangladesh, Iran, Turkey, and Russia were detained, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It was determined that the individuals were residing in Georgia without legal grounds, in violation of the Law of Georgia On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons. They had misused the asylum procedure and remained in the country unlawfully for years.

Despite being granted time for voluntary departure, they failed to comply with the expulsion orders. Consequently, the Migration Department decided to detain them.

The individuals are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation center, pending their return to their countries of origin, the Ministry added.
