Bidzina Ivanishvili, the Chair of Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party, has released a statement over Khorava Street murder case and the resignation of Irakli Shotadze.

The statement reads as following:

“Khorava Street tragedy has shocked me, just like the entire Georgian society. I was observing the legal proceedings with a very strong interest and I was convinced that the justice would be fully and timely executed.

I personally know Irakli Shotadze and I believe in his professionalism and honesty. I have always believed that Irakli and his office were doing everything in order to bring all the perpetrators accountable before the law. Unfortunately, the events developed so that the credibility of the investigation became suspicious for the victims and the certain part of the society. This fact was followed by honorable step inspired by high political and moral responsibility.

Irakli Shotadze’s resignation is a completely new standard, establishment of which was the main goal of the 2012 public revolution led by Georgian Dream. I want once again offer my condolences to the families of the victims and express my conviction that the justice will be definitely executed” –  the statement of Bidzina Ivanishvili reads.
