Azerbaijani FM: Energy and trade corridors between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey to be further expanded

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that a wide range of regional and international issues were discussed during the trilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Georgia and Turkey.

According to Bayramov, the ministers reviewed the progress of key regional projects, assessed their development stages, and discussed future opportunities for cooperation in areas with significant growth potential.

“We held extensive discussions on the progress of ongoing regional projects, reviewing the stages that have been addressed at previous meetings, the results achieved so far, and the significant potential they continue to offer. We also examined a number of promising areas where cooperation can be further expanded.

In addition, we exchanged views on the challenges facing our countries, including regional conflicts and broader international developments that have a direct impact on our region. Situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and their partners are working in close coordination to elevate regional cooperation to a new level.

I would also like to thank my colleagues for their support of the summit held in Washington, which produced positive results regarding relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The progress made toward peace represents an important and encouraging development. Significant steps have been taken toward establishing a sustainable peace framework, and it is now essential to address the remaining issues carefully and constructively to achieve a lasting resolution.

We also discussed developments surrounding Iran and the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip. Achieving sustainable peace in Gaza is of great importance, as the consequences of these events extend beyond the immediate region and affect both our neighborhood and the wider international community.

Diplomatic solutions remain the only viable path forward. Efforts to resolve conflicts and ensure long-term stability must be grounded in international law and respect for internationally recognized principles. Achieving sustainable peace should remain a priority for all parties involved, as it is essential for regional security, stability, and development,” the Azerbaijani Minister said.

Bayramov highlighted the importance of regional connectivity projects, describing Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey as a key transit corridor for energy and trade.

“Energy and trade corridors connecting Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey play a crucial role in regional development, and our goal is to further expand their potential.

The implementation of strategic projects such as the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan and Baku–Tbilisi–Erzurum pipelines has transformed our region into a key transit hub for energy resources. These projects have strengthened regional connectivity and contributed to economic growth and increased prosperity in all three countries.

Most importantly, while these initiatives are significant for the broader international community, they are first and foremost vital for strengthening relations among our countries. To this end, we continue to work closely together, including through cooperation between relevant ministries and government agencies, to advance existing projects and develop new ones.

At the end of May, Azerbaijan and Georgia launched a new phase of cooperation in the energy sector. We agreed to begin the second stage of our gas cooperation project, including issues related to the supply and sale of natural gas. We are also actively involved in developing the Green Energy Corridor connecting Central Asia and Azerbaijan, a project that will further enhance regional connectivity and support broader economic cooperation.

The modernization of railway infrastructure remains one of our highest priorities. Although the project faced certain delays, the railway has now been completed and put into operation, significantly increasing the region’s transport and transit capacity.

We also discussed the Zangezur Corridor, which remains an important topic on our agenda. In addition, our talks covered communications, technological innovation, and emerging opportunities for cooperation in new sectors. We see substantial potential for expanding collaboration in these areas.

Humanitarian cooperation is another important pillar of our partnership, contributing to stronger people-to-people ties and the restoration of historical connections among our nations.

Regional challenges, including cybersecurity threats, were also addressed during the discussions. These issues require coordinated and joint efforts, and we are committed to working together to strengthen resilience and enhance security.

This year, together with our brotherly partner Turkey, we plan to host a conference dedicated to climate change. We believe this initiative will provide valuable opportunities for dialogue and cooperation and will benefit many countries across the region.

Azerbaijan remains committed to strengthening its fraternal relations with both Turkey and Georgia. We are confident that deeper cooperation among our countries will contribute not only to regional stability and prosperity but also to improving the well-being of our peoples,” he concluded.
