Parliamentary elections are being held in Armenia today, with voters set to determine the composition of the country’s ninth convocation National Assembly.
The 107-seat parliament is seeing a competitive race for majority control led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his ruling Civil Contract party. According to opinion polls, the party currently holds around 32% support among voters.
The Civil Contract party faces competition from several opposition groups, including pro-Russian parties and alliances. Among the notable figures is Samvel Karapetyan, a representative of the Strong Armenia movement, who is currently under house arrest on allegations of attempting a coup.
Other key political forces participating in the election include the Armenia Alliance led by former President Robert Kocharyan, as well as the Prosperous Armenia party headed by Gagik Tsarukyan.
Polls also indicate a high level of voter skepticism, with around 40% of respondents stating that they do not trust any political figure or party.
Approximately 2.5 million registered voters are eligible to participate in the election.
