Alexandre Darakhvelidze: Interior Ministry welcomes PM's initiative to ban masks during rally

Georgia’s Deputy Interior Minister, Alexandre Darakhvelidze, welcomes the Prime Minister’s recent initiative to ban masks during demonstrations, citing the practice in several European nations.

“For example, a comparable law has been in place in Germany since 1985. Mask ban laws also exist in Austria, Canada, Italy, Spain, and Belgium. Furthermore, several European nations restrict the wearing of facial coverings in public places.

We think that enacting this law would considerably aid in conducting peaceful meetings and demonstrations, eradicate the perception of impunity for violent organisations, and allow the police to promptly identify and prosecute culprits,” Darakhvelidze remarked.
