Activist Nata Peradze faces criminal investigation in Berlin over Facebook post
Georgian activist Nata Peradze, currently residing in Germany, claims that law enforcement bodies in Berlin have opened criminal proceedings against her over a social media post. She revealed the development in a statement published on her Facebook page.
“In short, here is what happened: I received an official letter informing me that criminal proceedings have been opened against me here in Berlin over a Facebook post. As it turns out, online insults are treated as criminal offences under local law. The document does not name the complainant; it only lists the timestamp of when the post was published. From that timestamp, I have deduced who it is, but I am awaiting official confirmation before publicly naming them with documentary evidence.
In the meantime, my strong suspicion is that this is the work of a planted, high-profile government operative residing here in Berlin,” Peradze wrote.
