Experts concluded that electricity failure and operator’s mistake caused Gudauri ropeway crash incident
The primary conclusion about Gudauri ropeway crash incident by experts of international company Bureau Veritas became known today. Dimitri Kumsishvili, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development has held briefing in that regard today.
According to Kumsishvili on March 16 during the incident the operator made a mistake, as he did not make the right actions after the voltage drop.
As Minister noted, based on the recordings it was revealed that on March 16, the voltage definitely dropped, which caused the stoppage of the ropeway, after which the operator had to act in a specific order.
“However, after the chairlift was stopped, the operator had to introduce specific sequence of procedures and after implementation of the certain actions, the operator had to switch the chairlift on to the diesel generator power and bring the tourist to the safe site where they would have left the chairlift.
Unfortunately, according to the current conclusion, the operator made a mistake. The combination of the actions that he should have had carried out were not implemented in compliance with the relevant instructions – it was a human error.
Preliminary report will be transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which will continues investigation and accordingly, will charge the liable persons in compliance with the existing legislation”, – Dimitri Kumsishvili said.
According to him, the operator, who worked on the rope, has already been dismissed.
In addittion, the Deputy Head of the Mountain Resorts Development Agency and Head of the Gudauri Mountain Management Department addressed the Minister with the request of dismissal.
The 11 people were injured due to a ropeway crash in Gudauri on March 16. The injured patients are citizens of Ukraine, Russia, Sweden and Georgia. Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) launched an investigation into case of ropeway crash incident.
