Interior, Health Ministers visit rescue helicopter tragedy site in Gudauri

Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs Geka Geladze and Minister of IDPs, Labour, Health and Social Affairs Mikheil Sarjveladze visited the 2022 Gudauri tragedy site.

According to the MIA, the ministers paid tribute to the memory of the helicopter crash victims and laid a wreath at the memorial. Deputy Interior ministers, firefighter-rescuers, border police pilots and family members of the deceased accompanied the ministers.

The tragic incident occurred on July 29, 2022. The border police helicopter on a rescue operation in Gudauri crashed, killing eight people, among them the crew, rescuers, and first aid responders. The rescue helicopter, which had been called to assist paragliders, fell into the ravine, lost control, and crashed. One paraglider was injured, and a foreign tourist died.
