State Inspector’s Service to call on Justice Ministry, Penitentiary Service to stop video footage release

State Inspector’s Service called on the Justice Ministry and Special Penitentiary Service to stop releasing video footage depicting personal data of jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

“We urge the Georgian Ministry of Justice and Special Penitentiary Service to stop publishing video footage depicting Georgian ex-president’s personal data, to respect an individual’s dignity and non-infringement of personal life. We also call them to refrain from assessment of a criminal case led by State Inspector because probing into the fact of possible inhuman treatment against Mikheil Saakashvili is the competence of the State Inspector’s Office,” reads the statement.

Special Penitentiary Service released the video footage depicting the transfer of jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to the N18 Gldani prison infirmary. The Service said that due to high public interests, it decided to publish the video that shows how the ex-president physically assaulted the staff and damaged medical equipment.
