Salome Zurabishvili met with Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi

President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili met with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is paying an official visit to Georgia.

President of Georgia spoke about current situation in the region and relations with the countries of the region. On the other hand, the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China touched upon China’s international challenges, relations with the US and Russia.

Georgia’s geopolitical role was emphasized and it was noted that China is a partner of Georgia and it praises the role of Georgia in terms of the the hub connecting Asia and Europe. Conversations also touched upon infrastructure projects and investment environment of Georgia.

Sides discussed issues related to Georgia’s occupied territories and Russia’s aggressive policy. During the meeting, the President of Georgia noted that all negotiations, including within bilateral or multilateral formats, Georgia’s partners should urge Russia to fulfill its obligations towards Georgia; they should also use all the meetings to discuss the issues of Georgia’s occupied territories at high political level and Georgia’s partners should constantly remind Russia that Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration is an irreversible process.

A wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including the development of trade-economic relations, were discussed at the meeting.

The President of Georgia expressed her interest in cooperation as an observer within China-Central and Eastern Europe Cooperation framework (16 + 1 format) and noted that Georgia’s involvement in the format will ones again emphasize Georgia’s European aspirations.
