Opposition bloc renounces parliament mandates

United National Movement (UNM) held a meeting on Thursday devoted to the first convocation of the parliament in Georgia.

Opposition bloc Power in Unity members, except for the Republican Party, attended today’s meeting, however, UNM claims the Republican Party shares the bloc’s decision.

UNM member Levan Bezhashvili said the bloc would not enter the parliament. Their joint statement will be published on Friday.

Another UNM member Khatia Dekanoidze noted that ‘bloc members refuse to take up their mandates obtained from the rigged elections and would withdraw the electoral list.’

The opposition bloc is composed of five political parties: UNM, Progress and Freedom, State for the People, the Republican Party, and European Democrats.

The first session of the new parliament is scheduled for Friday.
