New academic year starts with novelties

New academic year started in public schools of Georgia. Schools are meeting the new academic year with novelties.

According to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia novelties will be in several directions:

New textbooks

School students will receive renewed textbooks for I-VI grade. From the start of the new academic year, schools have the opportunity to start the learning process with better, technically improved, visually appealing, and safer textbooks. The weight of the books is actually halved.

“I and the Society”, “Our Georgia”

The subject “I and society” will be introduced for the third and fourth-grade students in all Georgian schools. This subject will be taught by primary school teachers who have undergone special training in the summer.

As for the subject “My Georgia”, it will be taught in the fifth to sixth grades.

 System of evaluation

It was decided not to give marks in the first semester of the fifth grade. In order to give time to school students and teachers to accustomed to each other.

Changes have been made in terms of homework evaluation. In the first-sixth grades, the marks will not be written in the homework component.

Teaching Foreign Language

According to the new National Curriculum, the teaching of foreign languages will begin in the second semester of the first grade.

As for the second foreign language, at least two foreign languages are compulsory for schools, one of which must be European.

Duration of lessons

The duration of the lessons in the second grade has been decreased by five minutes, and instead of 45 minutes, it will be 40. In the first grade, the lesson duration will be 35 minutes, in the second grade – 40, and in the third-12th grades – 45 minutes.

Novelties in subjects

Novelties will be introduced in the subject – Georgian language and literature. In the fifth-sixth grades, the teacher can dedicate separate hours to grammar separately.

Sports lessons

One hour has been added to the sport lessons for the first and fourth grades.
