Minister of Internal Affairs – MIA is responsible for security in the Black Sea Region

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is responsible for the security in the Black Sea region and our ships are involved in the process to strengthen the country’s security – Vakhtang Gomelauri, Minister of Internal Affairs said in Batumi city of Adjara region.

Gomelauri, together with Deputy Secretary-General of NATO Rose Gottemoeller and Defense Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, visited the two Georgian coast guard Highland vessels handed over to the Georgian side by the U.S.

“The visit of the North-Atlantic Council in Batumi is very important. This is a clear signal of NATO’s support to Georgia,” Gomelauri said.

On the question of whether other member states of NATO planned to hand over more offshore supply vessels to the Georgian side, Minister of Internal Affairs said that the Georgian government was working on the issue.

The North-Atlantic Council (NAC) arrived in Georgia at the invitation of the Georgian government. The delegation includes permanent representatives of 29 member states of NATO and is headed by Deputy Secretary-General of NATO Rose Gottemoeller.
