MIA released statement regarding participation of police forces in June 20-21 events

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) released the statement regarding the participation of police forces in June 20-21 developments in Tbilisi after the so-called Gavrilov Night when the protest in front of the parliament building at Rustaveli Avenue was dispersed by the riot police with the use of tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannon.

The MIA said that only units of Internal Affairs participated in the police activity. The Ministry of Internal Affairs denied the information that the subdivisions deployed near the occupation lines were used in front of the Parliament on June 20.

“The subdivisions deployed near the occupied lines of occupied territories have not participated on June 20, so they have not been removed from duty,” – the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

About 240 people both civilians and law-enforcers were injured during the night of June 20-21.
