Georgian President: Strasbourg Court ruling shows Georgia to be on the right side

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili echoed the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling on two cases related to the 2008 Russia-Georgia war. The Strasbourg court, once again, confirmed Georgia is on the right side of history in the cases – Bekoeva and Others v. Georgia and Shavlokhova and Others v. Georgia.

“The Strasbourg court ruling the appeals inadmissible is yet a new judicial important victory on our path to peaceful de-occupation,” President tweeted.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Justice, the Strasbourg-based European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled in favour of Georgia in two cases related to the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.

The Strasbourg court rejected the appeals of locals residing in the Russia-occupied Tskhinvali region in the cases of “Bekoeva and Others v. Georgia” and “Shavlokhova and Others v. Georgia,” having considered the Georgian side’s arguments that the Russian Federation shelled Tskhinvali region.
