Akhalgori Governor – Entry of 30-40 people from Akhalgori will not lessen the crisis

Nugzar Tinikashvili, Akhalgori Regional Governor said that one mini-bus entered the territory controlled by the Georgian central government from occupied Akhalgori town that brought 10 people.

Tinikashvili told Georgian First Channel that the mini-bus would travel back and would transport more people. “Entry of 30-40 people will not lessen the crisis but the process that started is welcomed,” he claimed.

Akhalgori Governor hopes that locals will be able to move about freely although with so-called documents in the same way as before closure of the checkpoint. He said that about 5 thousand people held the so-called passes before the autumn of 2019. “I hope that new passes will be issued and the situation will be normalized,” Tinikashvili said.

The occupational regime temporarily opened the pass from Akhalgori town on January 24. The road will be opened for 10 days for everybody who keeps their so-called documentation in order. The so-called border in occupied Akhalgori town had been closed for 5 months.
