Shalva Khachapuridze, the lawyer for Georgia’s jailed ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili, said the Vivamed Clinic statement startled Saakashvili.
According to him, Saakashvili’s health condition is critical and therefore, the clinic’s statement is unclear.
“This statement was completely unexpected for him. Moreover, he said that he does not refuse any procedure. He agrees to any treatment guidance,” said the lawyer.
Khachapuridze said that Saakashvili expects to be tortured or subjected to inhumane treatment in case of his transfer to the Gldani or Rustavi facilities.
The lawyer appeals to the Public Defender to investigate this case.
According to Saakashvili’s mother, Giuli Alasania, the ex-President’s health precludes him from being moved to prison.
“I immediately thought that they were planning to return him to prison. I don’t know on what basis. His health does not allow it,” she said.
According to Mikheil Sarjveladze, the chair of the Human Rights Protection Committee of the Parliament, Saakashvili and his supporters are working synchronously to cause as much harm to his health as possible, and under such circumstances, the claims of the Vivamed clinic are understandable.
“The penitentiary Service and Vivamed should coordinate their actions in this case,” he continued.
Vivamed Clinic requested the penitentiary institution to evaluate the feasibility of Saakashvili’s continued stay in the facility.
“The symptomatic treatment to which the patient consents is possible in any other facility,” Vivamed Clinic released the statement on March 22.
