Vivamedi Clinic requests assessing feasibility of Saakashvili's stay at their facility

We have no choice but to ask the medical service of the penitentiary institution to evaluate the feasibility of Saakashvili’s continued stay in the Vivamedi Clinic since the symptomatic treatment to which the patient consents is possible in any other facility, Vivamedi Clinic released the statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, jailed ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili has been a patient at the Vivamedi facility since May 12, 2022.

“The patient underwent a full range of examinations, a diagnosis was made, and a treatment scheme was determined following modern guidelines. Despite the unprecedented pressure on us, we have tried to convince the patient to undergo the treatment, which was more or less effective until October, determining a significant improvement in the patient’s health.

Since last October, the patient has refused the offered treatment, especially if medication or procedure improved his subjective or objective parameters.

As a result, the patient has only received symptomatic therapy for the past month, has expressed distrust in the medical personnel, and has refused the planned treatment scheme.

Subsequently, the Vivamedi medical facility unjustly bears a significant reputational blow, which we find completely unacceptable. Medical personnel cannot forcefully treat someone, according to medical ethics.

Given the circumstances described above, we have no choice but to ask the penitentiary medical service to evaluate the feasibility of Saakashvili’s continued stay in the Vivamedi Clinic since the symptomatic treatment to which the patient consents is possible in any other facility,” the statement reads.
