Vice Speaker says violent rallies expected, as unrest-experienced oppositionists are among protesters
We used to say that lobbyists and patrons gave up on the United National Movement and told them to step into the shadows. This is exactly what happened. They hid the United National Movement in the back, dissolved it, and created small political groups and parallel NGOs, said Deputy Speaker of Parliament Archil Talakvadze.
According to Archil Talakvadze, the government’s projection came true.
“What harms civil society today is the politicization of NGOs, their direct engagement in destabilization process. Who is standing behind these funds? What is the source of money marginal groups are financed with? This is what the law On Transparency of Foreign Influence aims at. In previous days, we said that peaceful rallies would have turned into violence because opposition politicians who have much experience in organizing disorder stand among the protesters. Today, they openly held a briefing and said that we are the leaders of this rally. They directly took responsibility,” he said.
