Verbal conflict between UNM and GD MPs over Amnesty Bill discussion
Verbal conflict took place among MPs of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) and opposition United National Movement (UNM) parties in the parliament following discussions over the Amnesty Bill.
The conflict followed the speech of UNM Chair Nika Melia, who spoke about suspension of his MP immunity. MP Mikheil Kavelashvili criticized Melia. He said that the UNM Chair spend 2 months in prison and now tried to portray himself as a victim.
According to Kavelashvili, Nika Melia went to the jail at his own decision after he removed an electronic bracelet and refused to execute the court ruling.
Georgian parliament postponed discussions over Amnesty Bill on June 8 at the request of MP Mamuka Mdinaradze with the bill initiator Anri Okhanashvili’s consent. The majority MPs decided to wait for representatives of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party.
