SSSG First Deputy Head addresses conference at United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week
Lasha Maghradze, First Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG), has addressed delegates at a high-level conference in New York as part of United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week.
According to the SSSG, Maghradze’s address focused heavily on the pressing challenges currently facing the global community regarding international terrorism. He underscored the critical urgency of developing robust, effective mechanisms to counter these evolving threats.
During his speech, Maghradze made clear that Georgia resolutely opposes terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He emphasised that the country remains actively engaged with international and regional organisations, as well as allied nations, to neutralise threats stemming from global terrorism. Furthermore, in alignment with the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, Georgia continues to implement rigorous measures to enhance national readiness and resilience against terrorist activity.
Speaking from the UN Headquarters, the First Deputy Head reaffirmed Georgia’s steadfast commitment to deepening counter-terrorism cooperation through both bilateral and multilateral channels.
“On the margins of Counter-Terrorism Week in New York, a series of parallel working sessions was also held. These sessions focused on national and regional counter-terrorism strategies and on sharing best practices in combating terrorism and its financing. Giorgi Berianidze, Head of the SSSG Counter-Terrorist Centre, actively participated in these high-level discussions,” the State Security Service of Georgia said in a statement.
