Vasil Maglaperidze: Our nation, aspiring to join European family, should address hate speech
The Chair of the GPB Board of Trustees, Vasil Maglaperidze, on Friday, said that hate speech is a global concern, and many European countries have passed laws to regulate it.
“Naturally, our nation, which aspires to join the large European family, should address this problem,” Maglaperidze said after the meeting with the Youth Parliament members.
“During today’s discussion, it was said that the regulatory law should not be draconian but yield some results. This issue may cause big fluctuations in society, therefore, it should be widely discussed,” he went on.
Maglaperidze also stressed the media’s role both in spreading and halting hate speech.
“Media allows people to address the public. This is a kind of privilege for those who often appear on television, even during their professional duties. However, we must not forget that there are other people with equally valued professions whose activities are unrelated to television,” he added.
