Vasil Maghlaperidze: Part of local population does not know Georgian language or knows it poorly, television has resources that will be used fully

One of the main challenges facing our state is that one part of the local population does not know the Georgian language or knows it poorly. Television has the resources in this direction, that will be used fully, – Vasil Maghlaperidze, General-Director of Georgian First Channel stated.

As Vasil Maglaperidze noted, very serious and effective steps must be taken to ensure that young people representing ethnic minorities learn the Georgian language.

“Georgian First Channel has a great plan in this direction. We also have a moral and national commitment. One such project is “Our Georgian Language”, in which young people will be involved, but this direction will be further expanded in the future”, – General-Director of Georgian First Channel said.

We plan to cooperate with the Ministry of Education. We must use all our experience and resolve this issue to get tangible results shortly.

“The country loses a very important resource because of this. Our citizens are not able to be fully integrated into Georgian society because of the language barrier. We must solve this as soon as possible. Television has resources in this direction that will be used fully”, – Vasil Maglaperidze added.

Georgian First Channel’s project “Our Georgian language” aims at the popularization of the Georgian language. Various activities are planned within the framework of the project. The main part of the project is the Georgian language online Olympiad for non-Georgian language schools in different regions of Georgia. The project will be carried out with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Georgia this year.

Quizzes will be published on the project’s Facebook page, the winner students of the non-Georgian schools will receive encouraging prizes.
