Seven facts of violence against animals were detected in 2018, three of them resulted in fatality – Vakhtang Lomjaria, Head of Animals Monitoring Agency of Tbilisi City Hall reported.
Lomjaria told journalists that animals were inflicted injuries by people with guns or flat objects and Ministry of Internal Affairs opened criminal cases, respectively. However, as he said, it is not known to the Agency, whether or not the assailants got punished.
According to Lomjaria, 784 cases of inflicting traumas to dogs were detected in Tbilisi out of them the majority comes on road accidents. When talking about violence against animals, Lomjaria claimed that the problem is often related to lack of education and information.
Head of Animals Monitoring Agency claimed that with the new package of legislative amendments prepared by City Hall and Sakrebulo (City Assembly), violence against animals committed by an adult person will be punished with imprisonment up to 1-year term, while in case of a juvenile a parent will have to pay the fine in the amount of 100-300 GEL.
