Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister: Georgia plays crucial role in central Asia–EU connectivity

According to Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport, Ilhom Mahkamov, Georgia and Uzbekistan hold significant potential for deepening economic cooperation across a range of sectors, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported.

Mahkamov emphasized the strategic importance and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in developing the Middle Corridor. He noted that the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and Connectivity Investment Forum, along with the meeting of transport ministers from the European Union, Central Asia, the South Caucasus and the Black Sea region held within its framework, play an important role in strengthening trade and economic ties for both Georgia and Uzbekistan.

The Minister underscored Georgia’s importance as a maritime country that connects Central Asia with the European Union. He stated that close and effective communication between Uzbekistan and Georgia is crucial for creating new transport corridors, diversifying routes and further developing existing ones.

Mahkamov also highlighted the growing potential for cooperation in tourism, noting the positive dynamics in the sector and the existing air links between the two countries. He stressed the importance of the direct flights operating between Tbilisi and Tashkent, adding that such connectivity further enhances economic ties.
