US FY 2022 budget reaffirms Georgia’s de-occupation, non-recognition of occupied territories
The US House of Representatives approved the Fiscal Year 2022 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPs) appropriations bill on July 28. The document defines US priorities in support of partner states and their assistance.
The bill upholds the passage about non-recognition of Georgia’s occupied regions and the urge for de-occupation. With the bill, any financial assistance cannot be used for support of the Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions.
The document envisages allocation of no less than USD 305 million to reduce Russian political and economic pressure in Eastern Partnership countries including Georgia, to ensure development of security forces and strengthening their cooperation with NATO.
Based on FY 2022 bill, the budget to be allocated for Georgia should total no less than USD 132 025 000 million.
