US Ambassador says 'Georgian gov't has been very clear in its statements of support for Ukraine'
US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said on Friday “the Georgian Government has been very clear in its statements of support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” mentioning the country’s “generous support through the humanitarian assistance both to Ukrainians in Ukraine and Ukrainians who are here in Georgia.”
Ambassador Degnan stressed that the US has “very much welcomed Georgia’s statements in the UN, the OSCE, and other multilateral forums. Those are very important expressions of Georgians’ support and standing with the Euro-Atlantic community at this critical time.”
She continued: “The point here what we need to see now, of course, is unity, and that is important whether it is here in Georgia as an opportunity to put aside this polarization and come together around the issue that is vitally important for Georgia, vitally important for the region, vitally important for the Euro-Atlantic community.”
“We hope that there will be continued expressions of support as we have seen from the National Bank regarding implementation of sanctions. And as this goes forward, I think all of our countries will be expected and will be looking to do more,” US Ambassador added.
