I see a peaceful atmosphere and I hope that it will continue so during the whole day – US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan told journalists.
Degnan is in Marneuli town of Kvemo Kartli region in the status of an election observer.
“I am glad to see people coming to vote and wearing face masks. These elections are very important for Georgia. The main thing is a peaceful atmosphere and free choice for people, freedom to vote so that they can elect leaders and assign accountability to them. This is the fundamental principle of healthy democracy. There should no place for bribing, intimidation and forcing voters to take photos of their election bulletin,” Degnan said.
The US Embassy in Georgia has dispatched more than 75 people across Georgia to monitor the 2020 parliamentary elections being held in Georgia today.
