Minister of Internal Affairs issues order on defining rules for checking noise level generated during operation of vehicle

Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs issued an order defining rules for checking noise levels generated during the operation of a vehicle with a portable device, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced.

“From September 1, 2026, units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be checking the noise level generated during the operation of vehicles in traffic conditions, with noise measuring portable devices purchased by the MIA in compliance with the international standards –  ISO 5130:2019.

The admissible noise level is determined by the corresponding order of the Georgian government. According to the regulation, noise generated during the operation of a vehicle in settlements during night hours, from 23:00 to 08:00, must not exceed 80 decibels.

Based on the Code on Administrative Offences, the driver, whose vehicle violates the set noise level, will be fined 100 GEL and with 10 points reduction on a driving licence. If violation repeated, the driver will face 200 GEL fine and reduction of 20 points on the driving licence, while the third and every subsequent instance entails a fine of 300 GEL and a reduction of the driver’s license point balance by 30 points

The MIA officers continue to actively implement measures to maintain public order and ensure citizen safety, including administering traffic and responding to traffic violations,” the MIA said.
