UNM's Pavlenishvili says political movement born, prisoners of conscience stand as its leaders

“I believe that political movement is already born in Georgia, and prisoners of conscience stand as its leaders who fight for Georgia’s freedom,” said Irakli Pavlenishvili, a member of the United National Movement (UNM) party, remarking on the significance of April 9 in the history of Georgia.

According to Pavlenishvili, years after, Georgia is on the verge of losing the “treasure won on April 9” – freedom and independence.

“Dictatorship has finally been established in this country. It is the obligation of every Georgian to come out today. This is a very symbolic date. Parents of prisoners of conscience call for standing by their side. It is a big protest movement aiming to dismantle Ivanishvili’s system and rescue Georgia. One of the leaders of this movement is Paata Burchuladze, while organizers – parents of prisoners of conscience who determine today’s agenda. Political parties will assist them. The government and those who have committed the highest treason for the last several months have no moral right to arrive there. This is why family members of prisoners of conscience make such statements,” he said.
