UNM’s Pavlenishvili praises rally organisers for their personal sacrifice and responsibility

“Everyone has seen over the past year how people are being tortured and detained without cause, and there are concrete facts to substantiate this. Regarding October 4, a small group probably had information that others did not,” said Irakli Pavlenishvili, a member of the United National Movement opposition party.

Pavlenishvili added that the full truth is likely to come to light soon.

“I did not have this information about the possible withdrawal of the special forces to support the people. Since I was not privy to this, I can only assume that, in the near future, everything will be clarified, and those who are aware of the full story will shed more light on the matter. The organiser himself, Mr. Paata Burchuladze, has also stated that he did not participate in any assault. The majority of society has correctly recognised that a dictatorship is being established in the country, and that during this process, the burden and responsibility fall on the regime that oppresses and abuses its people. It is well known that a specific group possessed information. The rally organisers demonstrated an example of personal sacrifice; they took responsibility for such a sensitive issue themselves. It was quite understandable that they did not share the full plan, because when organising a rally, the fewer people who know about it, the safer the demonstration is,” Pavlenishvili explained.
