UNM's Pavlenishvili: 2003–2012 was period of success; history cannot be rewritten
“Georgia experienced a period of significant success from 2003 to 2012, and that history cannot be rewritten,” stated Irakli Pavlenishvili, a member of the United National Movement (UNM).
According to Pavlenishvili, the so-called parliamentary investigation commission is aimed at banning the UNM and undermining Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“We are witnessing a commission of treason, which is doomed to failure. In fact, both Georgian society and the international community are well aware that the period from 2003 to 2012 was a time of reforms, progress, and institutional development following the Rose Revolution. No Russian propaganda clichés can distort this reality, and no history can be rewritten. The true purpose of the so-called commission, which can only be described as a treasonous endeavour, was, among other things, to undermine Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, providing Russia with a platform to falsely claim that their barbaric aggression was not solely their fault but also the fault of the Georgian people and the state.
The arrests, bans, and destruction of civil and political rights are real and ongoing. We have observed this deterioration over the past several months. Bidzina Ivanishvili openly spoke about it on April 29, announcing plans to dismantle all non-governmental organisations, media outlets, and opposition parties. The Georgian people are preparing for a decisive stand, including on October 4. We will not permit Georgia to descend into Ivanishvili’s dictatorship LLC.
It is noteworthy that these investigations are only now being pursued after 13 years. If there had been genuine intent and a real opportunity, they could have conducted these inquiries back then. Clearly, the current effort is aimed at consolidating a formal dictatorship. Regarding the alleged crimes, the question has never been whether prosecutors, police officers, or those involved are accountable, whether Mikheil Saakashvili or any other high-ranking officials were present or responsible. Where are the police officers and prosecutors who allegedly committed the violations discussed within the commission? Why is this not being addressed? According to GD’s twisted logic, they can commit a crime and simply avoid accountability. High-ranking political officials may have had no direct involvement or contact with the specific facts at all.
We understand that misconduct can occur under any government in any country, but within this commission, no specific prosecutor, police officer, or judge has been identified as responsible. This clearly indicates that the true goal of this so-called commission is something else,” Pavlenishvili emphasised.
