UNM's Levan Sanikidze urges for legitimization of government in street
“We call on society to take one of three actions on October 4: Visit the so-called polling station and participate in the Russian special operation; stay home, considering that what is going on is not their affair, visit friends or a museum of relatives; or take to the street,” said Levan Sanikidze, one of the leaders of the United National Movement (UNM) party.
According to Sanikidze, October 4 is a significant day on the calendar and by the Constitution, and the society’s free will and legitimization of the government should occur in the street.
“When you go against the will of your voters, the majority of pro-Western voters and when the critical part of this society believes that this is a Russian special operation, what configuration should you offer other than Ivanishvili will not write you the number of votes, which you actually secured? Besides, nihilism toward opposition parties will not enable them to demonstrate any promising result,” he said.
Levan Sanikidze explained that the UNM urges nobody to participate in the October 4 elections.
“We call on society to take one of three actions on October 4 or I suggest how an ordinary Georgian citizen may behave that day: Visit the so-called polling station and participate in the Russian special operation; stay home, considering what is going on is not their affair, go to visit friends or a museum of relatives; or take to the street.
We call on everyone to mark October 4 in the street. This is a significant day on the calendar and by the Constitution, and the society’s free will and legitimization of the government should occur in the street. Therefore, our and their strategy radically differ, and we are not interested in what configuration they may offer to society,” Sanikidze stated.
