A member of the United National Movement (UNM), Lasha Parulava, believes that Georgia-U.S. relations will not be reset by one “protocol letter.”

According to Parulava, the reset of relations with the U.S. requires the release of opponents, political prisoners, and an electoral environment that enjoys full confidence of the international community.

“One protocol letter of Donald Trump will not reset the damaged relations with the U.S., which Ivanishvili’s repressive policy and anti-democratic steps caused. The disappointment in the U.S. and Washington has gone nowhere.

The reset of relations requires taking concrete steps, the release of opponents and political prisoners, and the establishment of an electoral environment that enjoys the full confidence of the international community.

Far from taking these steps, Georgian Dream is actually expanding its repressive measures. Therefore, I do not believe that this letter, the statements made by Georgian Dream representatives, will yield any results,” he said.

U.S. President Donald Trump has sent a letter to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, thanking him for his congratulations on the 250th anniversary of America’s independence.

“By working together in support of sovereignty, security, and lasting prosperity, we can continue to achieve meaningful progress. I look forward to strengthening our cooperation as we pursue a more secure, prosperous, and peaceful future together,” Donald Trump said in the letter.
