UNM’s Khabeishvili: Burchuladze was detained, released only after promise to pay Ivanishvili

Juansher Burchuladze [former Defense Minister] was detained for an entire day and released on one condition — that he deliver a specific sum of money to Bidzina Ivanishvili. If he fails to do so,  he will face the same fate as his deputy and relative,” stated Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the Political Council of the United National Movement.

“Juansher Burchuladze’s deputy and close relative have already been arrested. I said days ago that Burchuladze himself would be detained. While that hasn’t happened yet, his circle is being targeted. His relative was allegedly stealing in Burchuladze’s name. My information is that he was detained yesterday and released only after being told to bring money to Bidzina. If he doesn’t, he’ll follow his deputy and relative into detention,” said Khabeishvili.

The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) arrested Giorgi Khaindrava, the former Deputy Defence Minister, the former head of the Ministry’s Procurement Department, and a close relative of Juansher Burchuladze.

According to the SSSG, the case involves the alleged embezzlement of a large sum of money from the Ministry of Defense in 2023 by a group acting with prior agreement and abusing official positions.
