UNM's Botkoveli: Khabeishvili’s communication ban was expected; his dedication to persist behind prison walls

“Levan Khabeishvili’s isolation was expected, as the authorities are afraid of October 4 and the strength of the Georgian people,” stated Giorgi Botkoveli, the regional secretary of the United National Movement opposition party.

As Botkoveli emphasised, “The Georgian people will undoubtedly pass judgment on the Russian regime.”

“Throughout the period leading up to Levan’s arrest, we saw the so-called government representatives gloating, as if Levan were powerless and unable to influence the situation. But it has become clear that they are genuinely scared, very afraid of October 4. It was expected, not a surprise, that Khabeishvili would be restricted from communicating with the outside world, as during this period, he gained significant support and clearly demonstrated how active and committed he is. I am confident that until his release, he will continue to do so from behind prison walls,” Botkoveli further explained.

Botkoveli also commented on allegations regarding attempting to influence witnesses.

“Regarding allegations of attempting to influence witnesses, such as sending letters to Special Task Force employees, how can witnesses be influenced? There are only three Special Task Force employees involved, and they have fabricated absurd claims, suggesting that Levan’s words were offensive. This is completely baseless. On the other hand, it appears to be intentional, driven by fear of October 4. They are afraid of Levan Khabeishvili and, most importantly, of the Georgian people, who I am certain will ultimately pass judgment on the Russian regime,” Botkoveli concluded.
