UNM's Baramidze: Elections cancelled, replaced by special operation, excluding patriotic forces
“If a normal government existed—one free from involvement of the Central Election Commission, Security Service, police, prosecutor’s office, and criminal elements—democratic, pro-Western forces would win any elections by a large margin,” Giorgi Baramidze, political secretary of the Unity – National Movement, stated.
According to him, the country’s elections have been effectively cancelled, replaced by a special operation in which genuine patriotic and democratic forces should not participate.
“Instead, since at least 2018, Ivanishvili’s regime has been suppressing elections, akin to Belarus and Russia. The so-called elections are a sham; the regime is conducting a special operation instead,” Baramidze said.
“The UNM refuses to participate in this fraud. No democratic, pro-Western force will take part. We will continue to expose this criminal regime and call things by their true names,” Baramidze added.
He emphasised that the United National Movement is not in conflict with anyone and has a clear stance: the regime’s actions amount to a covert operation replacing genuine elections.
“If conditions were normal—if the government and institutions like the CEC, Security Service, police, and prosecutor’s office operated properly—the true democratic and pro-Western forces would win decisively. Instead, elections are cancelled, and a fake operation is underway, excluding all patriotic and democratic voices,” Baramidze concluded.
