A false campaign aimed at misleading the public was underway for an entire day, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said, commenting on reports about planned construction in Rike Park during today’s municipal government meeting.

According to Kaladze, reports claiming that a construction permit had been requested for a 10-story hotel in the park are untrue.

The mayor clarified that the municipality is not currently reviewing any such construction project.

“For the sake of objectivity, it should be noted that the person who spread this false and inaccurate information also wrote in their Facebook post that the image of the supposedly 10-story building had been created by them using AI. However, when people want to believe a lie, this makes no substantial difference to them.

For those who are genuinely interested in the city’s future, we want to make it clear that this information is false. No application for a 10-story building has been submitted, and no project has been submitted to the municipality,” Kaladze said.

He added that any future development in the area would be consistent with the city’s urban development goals and that the public would be informed about the project once it was submitted.

“I know how you did things before 2012, under the previous government, but under our administration, everything will be transparent. The public will have full information about the work and the specific project to be implemented in the future. We will approve a project that is acceptable for our city,” Kaladze said.
