UNM's Baramidze: Being in CIS does not bar one from joining EU

“Being a member of the CIS in no way prevents a country from joining the EU, provided it has sovereign will and the opportunity to move forward,” stated Gia Baramidze, a member of the United National Movement opposition party.

“It is evident to every sensible person that no one in the West is demanding war from Moldova or Georgia in exchange for accession to the European Union. This is a blatant lie fabricated by various Russian institutions and disseminated to Georgia and Moldova. It did not succeed in Moldova; Georgia has numerous mechanisms in place to pursue this path, yet the regime continues to spread cynical, shameless lies. It is no surprise that Putin’s fifth column did not congratulate the Moldovan people on their victory, nor on Russia’s defeat. This is entirely natural. Russian propaganda, through figures like Kobakhidze, claims that Moldova’s membership in the CIS is the reason for their silence. Kobakhidze, who is steering Georgia towards becoming a Russian satellite and towards Belorussianisation and Kadyrovisation, simply did not extend his congratulations to Moldova,” Baramidze explained.

He added that the vast majority of Georgian society understands very well what transpired in Moldova.

“They can offer excuses to those still misled. Fortunately, such numbers are dwindling. Russia was defeated in Moldova, and all reasonable people who desire a better future for Georgia are pleased. Our region is interconnected, and Moldova’s victory over Russia is significant for both Ukraine and Georgia,” concluded Gia Baramidze.
