UNM to take time to formulate its position on EU proposal

“Today’s document is a slightly improved version compared to the one discussed at the last round of negotiations. The document more clearly reflects the way to release political prisoners and the issue of early elections,” Salome Samadashvili, a member of the United National Movement echoed renewed proposal made by President of the European Council Charles Michel today.

According to her, the National Movement will hold consultations to consider the new proposal. Samadashvili notes that it is unclear whether the Georgian Dream intends to sign the document.

“It is unclear to me why the Georgian Dream did not appear at the talks today. So we can not say anything about the agreement today, because the position of the Georgian Dream towards the proposed document is unknown,” Samadashvili said.

President of the European Council Charles Michel made a new proposal to the Georgian political parties today. The text of the document reads that “following the offer made by the Georgian Dream on April 16 early parliamentary elections shall be called in 2022 if the Georgian Dream party receives less than 43% of valid proportional votes in the October 2021 local self-government elections”.
