UNM leadership hold meetings in Berlin

The Chairperson of the United National Movement (UNM), Tina Bokuchava, and the First Deputy Chairperson of the party, Levan Sanikidze, are currently on a visit to Berlin, where they have engaged in a series of high-level discussions.

According to the UNM press service, the leaders met with Daniel Kölbl, a member of the German Bundestag and Deputy Chair of the Germany-South Caucasus Parliamentary Group. During their discussions, they addressed the detention of Levan Khabeishvili, Mikheil Saakashvili, and other political prisoners, the suspension of visa-free travel, and the ongoing political crisis in Georgia.

The UNM leadership also held talks with Knut Abraham, a member of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs and European Union Committee, focusing on the unjust detention of Levan Khabeishvili, the Chairman of the Political Council of the United National Movement, as well as Mikheil Saakashvili, political prisoners, and the issues surrounding visa-free travel.

A further meeting took place on the same topics with Frank Schwabe, Chairman of the Social Democratic Group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and a Member of the Bundestag.

“During today’s meetings in the German Bundestag and the Foreign Ministry, I was reassured that Chancellor Merz, whom I met earlier, genuinely intends to deliver on his promise of a different Germany during his tenure. It is Germany’s responsibility, among others, to take the initiative to ensure Georgia’s survival as a state, safeguard our European future, and prevent the suspension of visa-free travel or sanctions that pose a real threat today.

In Berlin and Brussels, where we met with the European Commission and the Foreign Ministry yesterday, we are working to ensure that sanctions and visa restrictions are meticulously targeted at Ivanishvili, his entourage, and the system’s accomplices, rather than Georgian citizens losing this essential privilege.

We must pursue this diligently, and I am confident that through both external and internal pressure, the regime in Georgia will change. When we return to Berlin, it will not be to discuss sanctions, but to focus on bringing our country into the European Union,” said Tina Bokuchava.
