UNM leader: Today's march celebrates Georgian people's clear European choice
“Today, we will hold a meaningful march in celebration of Europe Day. I am confident that this demonstration will once again affirm the Georgian people’s steadfast European choice,” declared Tina Bokuchava, Chair of the United National Movement (UNM).
According to Bokuchava, Georgia is on the verge of becoming an institutional member of Europe.
“I want to extend my congratulations to everyone on Europe Day, May 9 — the day when the idea of the European Union was born. This is a day when all of Europe celebrates peace and unity. The European Union is founded on principles of peace and prosperity, and I am convinced that Georgia will soon join not only culturally and historically but also institutionally. Our accession to the EU will open vast opportunities for Georgian citizens—peace, prosperity, European pensions, healthcare, education, investments, and more.
Regrettably, today we celebrate Europe Day under the least European and most anti-national regime, which has seized power from the Georgian people, declared a cold war against the EU, and seeks to deny us our historic aspiration for European integration.
However, I am confident that the Georgian people, who overwhelmingly support European ideals, will, through joint efforts, remove this anti-European, anti-national government and continue on the European path. European investments will become accessible, providing immense opportunities for our citizens. Georgia will become a dignified member of Europe.
Today’s march, marking the anniversary of Europe Day—the day when Europe celebrates the founding of the European Union—symbolises Georgia’s long-standing aspiration to become part of that union, a goal we will undoubtedly achieve.
The march will commence from different locations, with the UNM starting from Republic Square. I am confident it will serve as a powerful demonstration of the Georgian people’s clear European choice. As a society and as a nation, we recognise that true strength lies in Europe and unity,” she concluded.
