Prosecutor’s Office charges two more individuals in Daur Buava death case

Georgia’s Prosecutor’s Office has charged two more individuals as part of the ongoing criminal investigation into the death of Daur Buava.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, it will apply to the court within the timeframe established by law to request pre-trial detention for both suspects.

The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs has established at this stage that on August 22, G.G. allegedly gave methadone base to V.K., who had already been charged in the case. According to V.K.’s testimony, part of the substance was consumed by her and Daur Buava on August 23, while the remainder was seized during a search of Buava’s apartment.

The investigation also established that G.G. illegally acquired and stored 6.27 grams of methadone base at his home. The substance had allegedly been divided into nine packages with the intention of facilitating its sale. Police seized the drugs during a search on August 29.

Another suspect in the case, S.B., who has a previous conviction for a drug-related offense, allegedly illegally acquired and stored 0.24 grams of dried marijuana at his residence. Police seized the substance during a search on August 29.

G.G. has been charged under Article 260, Part 3(a), Article 260¹⁴, Part 6(a), and Article 260², Part 7 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, relating to the illegal acquisition and possession of an especially large quantity of narcotics, facilitation of drug distribution and illegal transfer of narcotics. The charges carry a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.

S.B. has been charged under Article 273 of the Criminal Code of Georgia for the illegal acquisition and possession of a small quantity of narcotics by a person previously convicted of a drug-related offense.

The Prosecutor’s Office said it will seek pre-trial detention for both defendants. Earlier, the Prosecutor’s Office charged Ukrainian citizen V.K. with leaving Daur Buava in distress, and the court ordered her pre-trial detention. The Ministry of Internal Affairs said the investigation into the case is ongoing.
