UNM Foreign Secretary not to participate in "Stalinist court process aimed against national interests"
“I do not intend to participate in the Stalinist court process that aims to rewrite history and is against Georgia’s national interests,” wrote Zurab Tchiaberashvili, Foreign Secretary of the United National Movement (UNM) party, on Facebook.
Tchiaberashvili remarked on the statement of Tea Tsulukiani, head of the interim investigative commission studying the activities of the 2003-2012 government, who summoned former officials Zurab Tchiaberashvili, Natia Mogeladze, and politician Levan Gachechiladze to testify at the February 21 session.
“I am honoured to be named first on the list of those required to testify at the Stalinist court. This regime, serving as a counterrevolution to the Rose Revolution, seeks to rewrite history. Just as the 1921 occupation failed to erase our 3-year independence, and as the 1991 civil war couldn’t suppress the words “the will of the Georgian nation,” the 2012 counterrevolution will not succeed in rewriting the achievements of the Rose Revolution.
During my arrest in 2013 and throughout those 9 months of court appearances on absurd charges, I understood the nature of this regime. But I will not be intimidated. My actions, and indeed the historical record, will be a testament to the truth. This includes the fact that the liberation of Adjara from Russian chains and the peaceful restoration of Georgian sovereignty during that period. Even if there were no other accomplishments, these alone would justify the Rose Revolution.
The propagandists behind this Stalinist court, regrettably, are now pushing messages like ‘All Kotsis=Natsis,’ even as a joke, thereby perpetuating the regime’s intent to rewrite history. I refuse to participate in this Stalinist court, which serves to rewrite history and undermines Georgia’s national interests. It reinforces the regime and blocks our European future, followed by the de-sovereignization of Georgia and the de-jure violation of territorial integrity.
Solidarity with Mzia Amagobeli and Temur Katamadze, who have been on hunger strike for 37 and 33 days. Solidarity with Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Akhobadze, Giorgi Okmelashvili, Zviad Tsetskhladze, Andro Chichinadze and other political prisoners. We must unite and stop political prisoner discrimination. The power is in unity! Glory to Freedom! Victory to Georgia!” Tchiaberashvili wrote.
