UNM expresses full solidarity with NGOs facing new wave of repression
“Our full solidarity and support go to all members of NGOs who are enduring this new wave of repression from Ivanishvili’s puppets,” the United National Movement (UNM) has issued a statement of support to all members of non-governmental organisations.
The party expressed hope that victory over Bidzina Ivanishvili’s regime will be achieved through united, strong, and democratic efforts.
“Ivanishvili’s regime, linked to Russia, criminal, and treacherous, continues its aggressive assault on democratic and independent NGOs. Their representatives face criminal charges simply for refusing to register as foreign agents or obey Russian legal demands,” the statement explained.
The UNM condemned the regime’s attempts to divert Georgia from its European path, accusing it of targeting parties, NGOs, free media, and all citizens resisting the establishment of a Russian-style dictatorship.
“We stand in full solidarity with all NGO members facing repression. We are confident that, together, we will soon celebrate the victory over Ivanishvili’s regime with united, strong, and democratic efforts,” the UNM stated.
Six non-governmental organisations issued a joint statement affirming they would not register as ‘agents’ but would continue their work to support the Georgian people.
“We will not abandon the Georgian people. We will fight until Georgia becomes a free, democratic, and EU member state that the Georgian people deserve,” the statement declared.
The signatories of the statement are: Civil Society Fund, Sapari, Transparency International – Georgia, Media Development Foundation, International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) and Social Justice Centre.
