“The so-called commission is, in fact, a commission of treason. Its aim is not only to rewrite Georgia’s recent history into a Russian narrative and to blame Georgia for the 2008 war but also to intimidate society and neutralize political opponents,” stated Tina Bokuchava, Chair of the United National Movement (UNM).
According to Bokuchava, Zura Japaridze, leader of the Girchi – More Freedom party, remains a primary target of the government because of his popularity, especially among young people who demonstrate “courage and determination in resisting the Russian regime.” She emphasized that youth are key participants and leading figures in protest rallies.
“Discrediting Zura Japaridze through Tsulukiani’s treacherous commission would be a significant achievement for Ivanishvili. Unfortunately, I do not rule out — and neither does Zura — that today, the so-called court, and in fact the building which has become a bastion of injustice, might send Zura to prison.”
Bokuchava also stated that she would not pay the bail herself, affirming that it remains a personal decision for each individual.
“Ivanishvili is frustrated by differing stances and will attempt to use propaganda to discredit opposition politicians. Whether to pay bail is a personal choice. If it were up to me, I would not pay. I commend Zura Japaridze’s courage. Ivanishvili’s propaganda effort to discredit opposition figures in this way is in vain,” she concluded.
